Where do I start!
Firstly let me tell you, the attempt to build our townhouses was one trial after another – our experience with other builders , in the main, was not a good one.
Don’t deal with salespeople when it comes to building your home or development site – getting deceived by crafty marketing brochures assuring us that we were getting the best possible product for the price. We definitely learnt the hard way!
By the time we met John Wannett from Airlie builders we were the most suspicious and paranoid people going around. We had had it with regards to massive variations with price and basically being led down the garden path.
First thing that John did for us was to give us a fixed price with an item of inclusions to start with. We knew exactly what we were getting and what we were paying for.
Secondly, he handled everything from start to finish. Everything was included, including demolition town planning, site clearing and required certificates.
Thirdly, John was completely honest with the items that you did get, explaining where you could make improvements if required. And if you ever did have a concern he was always contactable to discuss and was always willing and open to make changes if required.
Once the building commenced everything that John said would happen, happened, keeping us informed if and when there was likely to be delays, which in the most part there wasn’t. John was more than happy for us to enter the site at any stage, which was good as we got to know the tradespeople he was using, and knowing that the main carpenter has been with him for over 20 years also gave us peace of mind with regards to consistency.
We have been in the place for 2 months now, and John is still happy to come back and rectify any minor adjustments or attend to any other minor concerns we have.
After everything we have been through we could have saved ourselves so much grief had we just gone to John first, if you’re reading this, this is your opportunity to learn from our mistakes.

We approached John after seeing completed projects of his around Healesville. We were looking to build a small 3 bedroom federation style cottage on a block we were going to subdivide.
John was knowledgeable and assisted us through the sub-division process and offered us a style of house that suited our aesthetic and budget for the area we were building in. Once final subdivision and building approvals came through, the actual build finished within timeframe and budget.
John also assisted with landscaping to provide a relatively low maintenance native frontage for the rental market.
